2 | The special customs of Holy Week
It is worth seeing the procession of the epitaph in the city of Lefkada on Good Friday: everyone passes through the market and the main square while the Philharmonic with its melodies uniquely complements the night.
From the early hours on Easter Saturday the atmosphere becomes celebratory. In the morning the Philharmonic enters the market street, playing marches - the signal for housewives to throw fragile clay pots from up high, making a terrific clatter as they smash, thus breaking the mourning of Holy Week or , according to others, killing Judas who betrayed Christ.
Special experience is also the feast of St. George in the homonymous monastery in Marantochori. After doxology, the procession of the icon takes place on horses, as a tribute to the horseman Saint George.
